Invited faculty includes researchers and clinicians who have developed new therapeutic techniques that will improve patients’ outcome.
Overall Goal Statement
The goal of this program is to provide information about the surgical vs transcatheter therapeutic approach in the treatment of pathologic regurgitation of each of the four cardiac valves.
Overall Learning Objectives

• State the implications of MRI data in decision making for surgical and transcatheter approaches to pulmonary regurgitation
• Discuss current percutaneous options for therapy regarding mitral regurgitation
• Describe indications for surgery for asymptomatic aortic insufficiency
• Discuss the current application of echocardiography, including 3D imaging, in pre- and postoperative assessment and management of mitral regurgitation
• Discuss the problems of 2D aortic root & leaflet measurements for surgical planning
• Discuss how 3DTEE can be used to assess the aortic root and leaflets
• Educate the Audience about indications for pulmonary valve replacement
• Discuss technical aspects of percutaneous pulmonary valve replacement
• Review mechanisms of tricuspid regurgitation
• Demonstrate echocardiographic evaluation of tricuspid regurgitation
• Review the indications for surgical repair of patients with Tricuspid Regurgitation
• Review the indications for surgery of patients with Mitral Regurgitation
• Review indications for surgical repair, surgical techniques and outcomes in patients with Aortic Insufficiency
• Review indications for surgery and outcomes in patients with Pulmonary Regurgitation
• Describe potential advantages of left atrial appendage occlusion transition from Fellowship to group practice
• Indicate Fellows consideration for hospital “employment” practice models
